Bath Half 2026 for suicide prevention

Fundraising in memory of Archie Jesty
My Story
We are proud to be running the Bath half marathon on the 15th of March 2026 in memory of our friend Archie, we hope to raise as much as we can for the life saving support which the Samaritans provide.
Archie Jesty was a brother, a son, a listener and a friend. On the 1st of May 2022 at the age of 18 he sadly took his own life. Archie had an infectious enthusiasm for his many hobbies including singing, playing saxophone and an impressive minidisk collection. He really cared about people and had so much love to give to the world. Archie was never bored and constantly curious, loving to share this knowledge with anyone who would listen. He was studying hard for his A levels at Midhurst Rother College and preparing to study developmental psychology at university in September.
Suicide is a crisis in the UK and it is getting worse. In England, a family loses a loved one to suicide every 90 minutes and for men under 50 it is the single biggest killer. This puts it ahead of car accidents, cancer or any other single cause. Suicide is often a silent killer and most of us do not talk about it, despite the fact you are as likely to know a vegetarian as you are to know someone with suicidal feelings.
Suicide is preventable and the Samaritans' work is absolutely vital.
Our Local Samaritans branch is Bognor Regis, Chichester and District. Having been established in 1970, they have been an essential part of our community for 55 years. The branch requires £25,000 to operate annually, and each branch is responsible for their own funding. With the recent news that up to 100 branches may close nationwide, we want to ensure the continued financial support of the 95 local volunteers that last year answered 17,000 calls.
£25 Helps to train, support, and retain an existing volunteer.
£44 Helps run the Samaritans online chat service for 1 hour.
£133 Helps cover the cost of recruiting and training one new listening volunteer.
Thank you for your donation, it means a lot to us and we know it would have meant a lot to Archie too.
