My Story

I am raising money for Norwich Samaritans. As a 62-year-old local veteran, I have always been deeply inspired by those who willingly sacrifice for others. Sacrifice comes in many forms, often involving giving up something of personal value for a greater cause or the wellbeing of others. These extraordinary individuals are the backbone of our community. The volunteers at Samaritans embody this spirit of selflessness, sacrificing their precious time and resources to support those in need. Their unwavering commitment and compassion make a profound difference in countless lives.

Samaritans volunteers offer support to anyone struggling to cope, 24/7, every day of the year. They work proactively to prevent crises, helping individuals develop coping strategies and learn how to support others. They also advocate for suicide prevention to be a priority. Samaritans operate as a charity across the UK and Ireland. Norwich Samaritans rely heavily on donations to continue their vital, life-saving work.

My Challenge - Vineyard Ultra Marathon.

Phase 1 – Complete
Over the course of a year, I visited 100 selected vineyards across the UK, walking more than 2000km through varied terrain and stories. Originally set at 1800km, the final distance reflects the extra miles walked in pursuit of connection and purpose.

Phase 2 – In Progress
Next, I will identify 100 of the steepest hills in Norwich and the surrounding area. Each hill will be climbed repeatedly until 5km is completed, one hill, one challenge, one story at a time.

Both phases represent the unique challenges with their rugged landscape, this journey symbolises the uphill struggles many people face.

It costs the charity just over £10 to call a volunteer. Together, we can make a difference. I invite you to join me in this mission. It’s as easy as sacrificing a visit to the coffee shop and donating that money to the Samaritans, or sacrificing some time to join me for a ‘Talking Walk’, whether on a training walk or one of the Norwich 100 walks. You can also support by simply following me on social media at Vineyard Ultra Marathon.

Let’s come together to support this vital cause. Every little bit counts, and your involvement and influence can make a huge difference.
