My Story

Hi,

I've been training to be a listening volunteer with the Salisbury Branch of Samaritans since January, hopefully gaining my wings in September. This has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life,  I am humbled by the calls we receive, the support Samaritans offers to people who might have no one else to share their problems with makes the service an invaluable one.

Samaritans is a charity, each branch exists with their own fundraising.
Salisbury is the biggest branch in the country with over 100 active volunteers, keeping things running 24 hours, all year takes a lot of money, especially in these times of higher costs everywhere, in our case it is around £50k per year to run well!!

The training we receive, the support and encouragement is testament to the organisation and its values to be non judgemental and accepting of diversity. I have never known such humility, selflessness and generosity of spirit with volunteers giving many hours to shifts, training and mentoring. I am so glad to have joined this team and hope to uphold their policies.

Fundraising is a huge part of being a Samaritan, to enable our doors to stay open and shifts to happen. We all want to do our bit!! That is why I decided to use this as an opportunity to do my bit!

I have a place in the Berlin Marathon on 29th September. It's been 3 years since I last ran this distance! I hope my older endurance legs will get me to the start.
Please sponsor me!
Every bit helps, any amount adds up! Knowing I'm raising money to support my Samaritans branch will motivate me to get to the finish!!

Thank you thank you!

My training is going in the right direction, my endurance legs are coming back, this will push me on!!
